Playing with Fondant

The other day we did a practice run on a cake we're going to do, Lord willing, at a dear friend's baby shower coming up~It being a shower for a little girl, we wanted to do alot of pink stuff, and ribbons, and ah.... Anyway, We had so much fun with it!! We decided on a "gift wrapped cake" look. It was our first try with fondant, and we like the way it looks, but, I 'm afraid, the taste could be alot better~It's not bad, or course, being pure sugar, but you eat a piece, and you're thinking, what's this leathery stuff on here for, and then you end up leaving it on the plate like an orange peel....Oh, well. We'll see. But I thought you girls might enjoy the pictures in the mean time! :)
Love,
Adeline

Fondant doesn't taste great but you can do amazing things with it! You did a wonderful job with your cake.

Btw, I found your blog through Ants-on-a-farm and read through the whole thing, enjoying weddings, grandbabies etc...glad you are posting again!

Have a wonderful day!

The cake looks so pretty! I must agree with you about the taste of fondant - it promises so much but delivers so little doesn't it? But the cake inside - my goodness, that does look delicious!

I've done similar cakes without the fondant. Fondant is nasty tasting.

I flat white iced the cake, and then melted decorating chocolate or modelling chocolate to make the "ribbon and bows" that I placed on the cake parcel later.
